Murt Reintroduces Bill to Allow Low-Cost Drug Programs at Pennsylvania Pharmacies
3/5/2010

Rep. Thomas P. Murt and CBS 3 Consumer reporter Jim Donovan discuss Murt’s House Bill 1370, which would enable Pennsylvania’s retail pharmacies to offer the same extensive low-cost prescription drug programs offered in other states.

Rep. Thomas Murt (R-Montgomery/Philadelphia) has re-introduced his legislation to enable Pennsylvania’s retail pharmacies to offer the same extensive low-cost prescription drug programs offered in other states.

In an interview with CBS 3 consumer reporter Jim Donovan this week, Murt discussed House Bill 1370, his legislation to exempt prescription medications from Pennsylvania Unfair Trade Practices Act which prevents Pennsylvania pharmacies from selling some pharmaceuticals at the same low price they can in other states.

“We have all seen television commercials announcing that certain retail pharmacies will sell a 30-day supply of generic prescription drugs for $4,” said Murt. “These programs help senior citizens and others on fixed incomes afford their life-saving medications.

“Pennsylvanians should be able to take advantage of these programs without having to leave the state,” Murt continued.  “My legislation will provide a solution for the more than 1.2 million uninsured Pennsylvanians who, according to the Kaiser Family Foundation,  will avoid filling prescriptions and remain untreated, rather than paying the price of expensive prescription drugs.”

House Bill 1370 is currently before the House Consumer Affairs Committee.
