Miller Named “Legislator of the Year” by State Conservation Group
State Rep. Ron Miller (R-Jacobus) was named “2010 Conservation District Legislator of the Year” by the Pennsylvania Association of Conservation Districts (PACD). He accepted the award during the group’s recent two-day conference in State College, PA.
“Receiving an award from the hard-working members of the Pennsylvania Conservation Districts is especially rewarding,” said Miller, Republican chairman of the House Game and Fisheries Committee. “I am proud to accept this award as someone who has always loved the outdoors and tried to do his best to maintain what we have. Pennsylvania is a beautiful state, and we need to do all we can to promote, preserve and protect that natural beauty, as well as our environment.”
“Representative Miller was cited for his years of service to conservation districts and support of programs that promote environmental stewardship,” said Susan Marquart, executive director of PACD. “He assists at York County’s Envirothon events and has authored or co-sponsored numerous pieces of legislation to facilitate conservation district activities including amendments to the Conservation District Law, as well as bills dealing with mitigation of flood hazards and establishment of dedicated funds for conservation districts.”
The award is given annually to a legislator for his or her outstanding efforts that have furthered the activities and accomplishments of conservation districts on a statewide basis. PACD works to enhance locally led efforts that support the wise use of the state’s natural resources, and serves as the collective voice for Pennsylvania’s 66 county conservation districts.
